                                                                 Is Uzbekistan a safe destination?

Uzbekistan is considered one of the safest countries in the world for travelers. The country boasts a low crime rate and is renowned for the friendliness and hospitality of its people. Women travelers will also find Uzbekistan to be very welcoming and female-friendly, with a respectful and safe environment in both urban and rural areas. Uzbekistan consistently ranks high on safety indices for tourists. Locals are known for their warmth and eagerness to assist visitors, making solo and group travel alike a pleasant experience. Women travelers report feeling secure and respected, with many exploring the country independently. Safety remains a top priority for Silk Horizon Tours, and we ensure all accommodations, guides, and activities adhere to high safety standards.

What’s the best time to visit Uzbekistan?

Uzbekistan’s high seasons are in spring and autumn, offering pleasant days and cool evenings. These periods are ideal for exploring the stunning architecture and vibrant bazaars. Summer can get hot during the day, but the evenings are often delightful, especially in cities like Samarkand and Khiva. Winters can be chilly, but they bring fewer crowds and a peaceful charm to the historical sites. It’s an excellent choice for those who enjoy serene explorations.

What should I wear in Uzbekistan?

Uzbekistan is a predominantly Muslim country but is also secular, and the dress code is generally relaxed. Visitors can wear comfortable and casual clothing. However, it is recommended to be mindful of cultural norms, particularly when visiting religious sites. Lightweight and breathable clothing is suitable for warmer months while packing layers or a light jacket is advisable for cooler evenings in spring and autumn. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring historical sites.

When visiting religious sites, modest attire is appreciated. Avoid short skirts, shorts, and tank tops. Women are encouraged to wear long skirts, dresses, or loose-fitting pants paired with tops that cover the shoulders. Men should opt for long trousers rather than shorts at these locations. Dressing respectfully ensures a comfortable and culturally considerate experience throughout your journey.

What kind of accommodations are provided?

Silk Horizon Tours partners with comfortable 3-star and boutique hotels to ensure your stay is both pleasant and authentic. Depending on availability, accommodations include: The Inspira-S Hotel in Tashkent offers a modern and welcoming environment with excellent amenities. The Orient Star Hotel in Bukhara provides a boutique experience with charm and local flavor. In Khiva, we partner with the Annex Hotel or Khiva Residence Hotel for comfortable stays with unique ambiance. For relaxation after a day of exploration, the Marokand Spa Hotel or similar accommodations in Samarkand are excellent options. If these hotels are not available, we will ensure to find accommodations of the same class or higher, maintaining the quality of your experience.

How should I handle money in Uzbekistan?

The Uzbek som is the local currency. US dollars, euros, UK pounds, and Japanese yen can be exchanged at banks and hotels. Ensure your bills are in good condition, as damaged or marked notes may not be accepted. While ATMs and card payments are becoming more common, they are primarily available in major cities like Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara. Carry cash as a backup for smaller towns and rural areas. Always count your cash at the exchange counter to avoid any discrepancies.

What should I know about handicrafts and souvenirs?

Uzbekistan is famous for its vibrant handicrafts. Antiques over 50 years old cannot be exported. Handmade items may require certification from the Ministry of Culture. Mass-produced souvenirs do not need special certificates, but keeping receipts is recommended. If there’s any doubt, customs officials can inspect items, so ensure proper documentation for unique purchases.
